Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) – Easy As ABC

As I pick and choose my 5 classes as a part Level 3 for the Altenew Educator Certification Program, I am drawn to certain techniques in particular. Altenew’s ‘Easy as ABC‘ class, was one of them. First of all…I think  Therese Calvird is a fantastic instructor and this class is no different. There’s a lot of various way to use sentiments, letter dies, word dies, etc. and this class teaches you a few way to make those pop on your cards. I opted to use a sentiment stamp to create a background for my birthday card.

I started off by taking a ‘happy birthday’ sentiment from Altenew’s birthday builder stamp set and a stamp block from Simon Says Stamp to create a delicate background. I selected a very feminine but solid sentiment and Altenew’s Dew Drops Crisp Dye Ink and repeatedly stamped the sentiment at a diagonal for a bit of detail and added dimension.

I wanted a nice, bold image to go along with my stunning new background, so I opted for Altenew’s Regal Beauty stamp set. I started with Altenew’s Orange Cream Crisp Dye Ink for the first layer of the large flower in the stamp set.

I used Autumn Blaze ink to stamp the second layer, and Fire Brick ink for the third layer.

I stamped a pair of leaves to go along with my beautiful flower. I stamped the first layer and second layers with Mountain Mist and Volcano Lake respectively.

For the final layer of the leaves I used Turquoise ink for a bit of contrast.

I used the coordinating dies to cut out the flower and leaves and set aside as I prepped the rest of the card. I grabbed a piece of Simon Says Stamp black cardstock and Brutus Monroe’s Penny Embossing Powder-. I cut down the strip and adhered it to the background panel using Simon Says Stamp’s Big Momma Foam Tape.

I cut down a panel of Simon Says Stamp’s Orange Peel cardstock to approximately 4×5.25 inches and adhered the stamped panel to it.

I adhered the flower and leaves to the front of the card using Simon Says Stamps Big Momma Foam Tape at an angle that matches the stamped sentiment. Then I adhered everything to an A2 sized card base of Neenah Solar White Cardstock. Then for a touch of bling, I added a few of  Studio Katia’s Icy Sparkle Crystals.

I stamped the same Flower image onto a white coordinating envelope and done.

Alright ladies and gentlemen…. I am still working on my MASSIVE craft room cleanup and have come across several items that I will not be using. As mentioned in my last giveaway I will be selling some of the items in my Etsy store to help finance my habit and have decided to do MONTHLY giveaways until my overflow pile is gone (I already have 4 more boxes ready to go).

So… Once again In the spirit of all things crafty I will giving away a mystery box this month with brand new and some slightly used stamp sets and crafting supplies. Please note there will be both branded (ie. Altenew, Flora and Fauna, Simon Says Stamp etc) and unbranded items (some just with no packaging and some generic brands) in each box. All I ask is that the recipient pay actual shipping costs for the box (psst… I’m in Canada). Interested in getting your hands on this month’s mystery box? Here is how to be considered:

Card Sketch Challenge: FMS377

I opted to give the Freshly Made Sketches Card Sketch Challenge a try this week.

Sketch (FMS377) :

My Submission, using MFT’s Wildflowers Stamp Set (CS-331), Joy Claire’s Hello Sentiments stamp set (CLR-02110), Simon Says Stamp’s Dye inks (SSS), Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Glitter Pen, Memory Box’s Dot Grid stencil and some embelishments.

MFT Card Challenge

Yes.. Clearly I’m obsessed with card Challenges right now! But they force me to think outside the box which is awesome. Do they always turn ou the way I want them to? Nope! However, they do allow me to. Try out more things than I normally would and helps me to find things I like and even love.

I decided to try the My Favorite Things (MFT) Sketch Challenge this week.

I love the polka dots and I love the flowers but if I were to do it again I would just have larger polka dots on the bottom half – which was my original design but it felt too plain so I changed it up. Need to start trusting my instincts more.

MFT Sketch Challenge #426:

My entry, using MFT’s Color Drops stamp set (CS-207), MFT’s Wildflowers stamp set (CS-331) and Avery Ellen’s Sentimental stamp set (ST-16-01):
