Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) – Celebration: Stencil Techniques

A beautiful anniversary card for a special couple. I love stencils as I find they’re easier to control colour on for me. For some reason I’ve been hesitant to try new things with stencils, however as a part of Altenew’s Celebration: Stencil Techniques class I’ve been pushed to try more. I’m very glad I did!

I started off with Altenew’s Floral Garden Stencil. A unique component of this stencil is that. It layers and lines up perfectly to make colouring very easy. I taped down the stencil to my panel and stenciled the first layer using Altenew’s Coral Bliss Crisp Dye Ink.

After completing the flowers, I rotated the stencil and brushed on the second layer of the leaves using Forest Glades. To ensure that I didn’t brush the green on the stamens I taped over those portions first. After completing the leaves, I removed the tape and used Citrus Burst for the stamen.

After completing all layers of the stencil I let the ink completely dry. Then I places the stencil back to line up with the flowers. Using Tonic’s silicone spatula and Tonic Nuvo Glitter Paste in Moonstone I covered the stencil and smoothed it out, returning any extra to the bottle.

I removed the stencil, washed it and. The Spatula with warm soapy water and allowed the panel to dry fully. I trimmed the panel down to 3.75 x5 inches.

I used Altenew’s Geometric Frames Die and cut a frame out of Gold Foil Cardstock and the panel portion from Simon Says Stamp’s vellum.

I treated the vellum with an anti static powder bag and then heat embossed Happy Anniversary on the vellum using Brutus Monroe’s Gilded Embossing powder and Altenew’s Enchanted Gold Pigment Ink.

I adhered the gold frame to the sentiment panel and glued it to the floral panel. I cut a panel using Simon Says Stamp’s Cardstock in Cotton Candy to 4×5.25 inches and used it to back the floral panel. I attached everything to an A2 card base measuring 4.25×5.5 inches. I decorated the envelope to match the card and its complete.

Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) – Irresistible Inking Techniques

I love watercolor. Am I really great at it? No.. But i love it! I was excited about Altenew’s Irresistible Inking Techniques class as it had a few examples using water ink.. LOVE!

I have quite a few September birthdays so I’m focused on getting those out the door. I knew I wanted to do a floral with an acrylic block inked background. I’ve tried it before and it didn’t quite work out, but this time I’m liking it.

I started off measuring out my piece by placing the image from the Engraved Flowers stamp set to the back of the acrylic block. This allowed me to see exactly how much of the block to ink up with each colour.

I inked the bloom portion of the block with Altenew’s Rubellite ink and the section with the leaves and stem with Bamboo.

I spritzed the block with a bit of water and pressed it down unto my card panel.

After letting the ink dry, I cleaned the block, flipped it around to the side with the stamp and inked it up with Versamark Ink ad stamped down into the coloured section. I heat embossed the image using Brutus Monroe’s Gilded Embossing powder.

I wanted to add a bit more depth. To the flower so i smooshed Altenew’s Razzleberry and Parrot inks onto my craft mat and using my Jane Davenport water brush I added some of each of the darker colours in certain sections.

Essentially I followed the grooves from the stamp and added colour for highlighting.

After drying the image I added a Happy Birthday sentiment from Altenew’s Birthday Builder stamp. Set. Then I trimmed the panel down to approximately 3.75×5 inches and adhered it to a gold foil Cardstock panel. Measuring approximately 4×5.25 inches.

I adhered everything to a card base measuring approximately 4.25×5.5 inches. I wanted a bit of bling so I added some of Studio Katia’s Sparkling Crystals.

All done!

So I’ve always LOVED patterned paper… The designs/prints… So many choices and such beautiful colours. But what so i do with them? How do I successfully incorporate them into my card making without it looking cluttered in my eyes?

I opted to give it a shot for some easy Easter cards. I was so busy filling orders for others that I totally lost the time to make my own… Enter the patterned paper… No stamping!
