Coming up Roses – birthday card!

Alright, so you always need birthday cards because quite frankly there’s always a birthday right around the corner. I made this card, using a stamp set I’ve been DYING to use and thought it was perfect for a family member’s birthday. After seeing the finished product I’ll definitely be revisiting this for Mother’s Day and potentially making a lovely card set out of this as well.

I started off by prepping an A2 sized panel of Neenah Solar White Cardstock as I was planning to heat emboss on this card.

I grabbed My Favorite Thing’s All Roses Background Stamp and I used a MISTI for this card as I wanted to make sure I could get a great impression of this stamp as it’s quite large. Make sure to remove the sponge insert out of your MISTI when using Red Rubber stamps as they usually already have foam attached. I placed my panel in the MISTI using a bit of removable tape runner on the back to keep it from shifting, then lined up my background stamp and close the door to pick it up.

I inked up the stamp using Versamark Ink (any watermark ink will work for this).

Then I used Brutus Monroe’s Gilded embosssing powder and my WOW Dual speed Heat tool to heat emboss the panel. BOOM….A panel of gold embossed roses….LOVE!

Then I used my Pickett Fences Life Changing Blender brushes and Altenew’s Crisp Dye Ink in Soft Lilac, Lavender Fields and Deep Iris to create a blended panel. I started off with Soft Lilac on the bottom, then moved to Lavender Fields in the middle and then Deep Iris on the top portion of the panel. I made sure to go back down in reverse order to help the colours blend smoothly.

Then I grabbed a large circle punch and punched out a circle of Vellum, then head embossed “Happy Birthday” from, Altenew’s Birthday Builder stamp set, and Brutus Monroe’s Gilded Embossing Powder on the vellum. Then I used a bit of clear adhesive behind the embossed words and adhered it down to the blended panel.

I trimmed down the panel to approximately 5.25×4 inches and adhered it to an A2 sized card base of Neenah Solar White cardstock.

Then I inked up the All Roses background stamp again, but this time I used Altenew’s Enchanted Gold Pigment ink and stamped it down on the flap of a coordinating envelope. I used the gold ink of the envelope to better match the gold heat embossing on the card.

I really love the way the gold pigment ink turned out and maybe i’ll try that on a card soon for a slightly different look. Either way, this card is complete!
